Crossing the River Rubicon
This picture is Julius Caesar crossing the River Rubicon. It was a big decision because if he crossed the river with his army, he could spark a civil war on Rome's soil. Caesar had gone away to Gaul to conquer for many years with his army. When he was coming back to Rome, he still had his army. Caesar had some charges that he had to deal with. Crossing the river with his army was illegal, but he did it anyway."The die is cast" means "the decision has been made."
The Ides of March
This Julius Caesars assassination or "The Ides or March". The senate didn't like Julius Caesar because he was gaining too much power. The senators didn't like that, so they took matters into their own hands. Julius Caesar had received plenty of signs and warnings that his death was coming soon, but he ignored them all. On March 15th, 44 B.C, Julius Cesar is stabbed 23 times, dying on the senate floor next to the statue of Pompey. After Julius Caesar died, the Republic had died.
